With a universe of 1,000 planets and a promise of 500 hours of immersive roleplay, Starfield is set to be expansive. You’d likely prefer diving straight into the action rather than spending hours in character creation. But with numerous choices affecting your character’s backstory and abilities, it’s essential to plan.
Enter the Nukes & Dragons build planner. This tool allows you to pre-plan your character’s journey, starting with a defining backstory that adds depth to your protagonist.

Next, you’ll be able to distribute skill points across several domains: Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech. Each domain houses its own set of sub-skills. For instance, within Physical, you can invest in Fitness, which provides a 10% oxygen boost. Or, if you’ve reached the required level, you can opt for Cellular Regeneration, enhancing your natural injury recovery. As you progress, you can amplify these skills by assigning more points to them.
Finally, players can select up to three character traits, each with its unique advantages and downsides. For instance, the Dream Home trait allows ownership of a lavish residence on a serene planet, but it comes with a significant 125,000 credit mortgage due. Another intriguing choice is Hero Worshipped, which features Oblivion’s notorious Adoring Fan, brought to life again by the talented Craig Sechler. He’ll consistently chat you up but will also occasionally bestow gifts upon you.
It’s crucial to mention that the build planner is still evolving and relies on “data that might be inaccurate or not fully complete.” Therefore, some aspects might differ in the actual game release.
Starfield is set to launch on September 6 and is already generating considerable buzz. The game now leads the US Steam top-seller charts, surpassing the acclaimed RPG Baldur’s Gate 3. Players who have secured the Starfield Premium Edition or Constellation Edition can dive in as early as September 1 through the Starfield early access feature.
