Starfield: Vehicles
The upcoming Starfield epic adventure offers various exciting exploration methods around the Settled System and possibly beyond. This presents an intriguing angle for Bethesda, especially given the lack of transportation options in previous games. Notably, spaceships are a key transportation feature, but many also wonder whether there will be terrestrial transports such as Halo’s Warthog or NASA Luna Rover. Our extensive transportation guide, which you can find below, discusses all possible modes of traveling.
Also, be sure to explore our pre-launch content for this science-fiction saga, which includes guides on Starfield cities, planets, factions, traits, the NPC list and a handy collector’s edition guide to help you secure the best version of Starfield upon release.
What Are The Available Starfield Vehicles?
Without a doubt, Starfield’s principal vehicles are the spaceships used for interstellar voyages. For a comprehensive understanding of these modes of transportation, peruse our guides covering Starfield ships’ introduction, different types, manufacturers, and customisation. Each guide provides insights into acquiring a spaceship, upgrading it, and the ideal parts to use.
Are There Starfield Ground Vehicles?
Todd Howard’s interview confirms the absence of land vehicles and creature mounts for transportation at the game’s launch. Limited to the Boost Pack, players will only overcome obstacles by jumping. This news may disappoint some fans who, after noticing tire marks in a Starfield trailer, speculated the possible presence of land vehicles. Despite some old concept art suggesting a Lunar Rover-like vehicle, we now know that there won’t be land rovers.
Bethesda’s past lack of vehicle inclusion is supposedly due to then-existing technology, which made the game world struggle to load in time for quick adventures. But with upgrades to the Creation Engine 2, a modder may introduce custom Starfield land vehicles, or a buggy might feature in a future Starfield DLC.
Will Starfield Have Air Vehicles?
From what we know, players can land anywhere on a planet but won’t have atmospheric flying abilities. Though fast-travel back to your ship will be available post-landing, having a small jet or hovercraft could enhance initial explorations.
A similar system potentially hinting at a fast-travel system or aircrafts came up in Fallout 4 in the form of a Vertibird air transport. However, the form of potential airborne vehicles in Starfield and if they’ll feature in the game remains unknown.
Are There Starfield Water Vehicles?
Given that some Starfield planets like Neon city’s host are mostly water, water transport seems likely. Although previous Bethesda titles included various water bodies, they typically lagged behind their terrestrial equivalents regarding active content. Considering Starfield’s vast scope, there are reasonable expectations for oceanic exploration, possibly indicating the presence of boats or submarines.
Currently, however, we’ll have to wait to see if the Starfield modding community or DLC brings us additional vehicles post-launch.
